On Easter Monday, Dutch National Ballet presented a festive and varied programme highlighting the virtuosity and unique personality of the principals and soloists of the company. After the long period of practicing at home and dancing only in a few amount of performances, the dancers could show the audience parts of their favorite pieces in the livestream.
From vernal Giselle Pas de Quatre (performed by Salome Leverashvili, Jan Spunda, Nina Tonoli, Sho Yamada) and Classical Symphony (by Remi Wörtmeyerto) to the fresh Delibes Suite choreographed by José Carlos Martínez (danced by Anna Tsygankova and Constantine Allen) and the luxurious Talisman ballet Pas de Deux (by gorgeous Maia Makhateli and Young Gyu Choi) the gala had the festive, light and very beautiful atmosphere.
The spectators had the chance to see the new dancer of the company, the principal Jakob Feyferlik in duo with Jessica Xuan in the Sleeping Beauty Grand Pas de Deux (choreography by Marius Petipa in Sir Peter Wright’s version). Both dancers showed their very special touching feeling of this ballet, performing it on the highest level of technique. It was really great to see both dancers in such a good shape after the long pandemic break.
Wubkje Kuindersma’s Two and Only is the 12 minute long performance not only by two dancers, but also by Michael Benjamin with deep and heartfelt vocal and musical performance. Jozef Varga and Timothy van Poucke demonstrated the emotion in the multiple aspects that can happen with two very different people. The intimate feeling provoked by the hypnotic atmosphere makes this piece outstanding and absolutely stunning.
The world premiere of Alignment, the new piece by Juliano Nunes happened online but Anna Ol and James Stout looked organic with the amazing music by Ezio Bosso. We can recognize the style of young Brazilian choreographer in the movement and the kind of abstract ballet with figurative tension between partners.
The Spring Special by Dutch National Ballet made with a lot of enthusiasm gave us the chance to enjoy the classical, modern and contemporary choreography, discover something new and realize that art helps us to go through any trials. If you skipped the livestream you can also buy a ticket for the repeat on April 10 at 20:15.
