La Notte Italian Season: 5 XIX - XX centuries painters worth your attention

When we’re talking about Italian Art, we usually mean the Renaissance, Baroque or pre-World War I Futurism, the unique in our mind is Amedeo Modigliani. However the way from Baroque and Academic Classicism to the futuristic ideas was very interesting and today we would like to show you five Italian painters of XIX – XX centuries who worked in different styles and mostly with the genre of portrait.


Giovanni Boldini (31 December 1842 – 11 July 1931) is famous around the world as the "Master of Swish" because of his flowing style of painting, according to a 1933 article in Time magazine.

Antonio Mancini (14 November 1852 – 28 December 1930) was an Italian impressionist, known mostly by his portraits of children.

Giacomo Grosso (23 May 1860 – 14 January 1938) was also a portrait painter, known mostly by his paintings of nude of finely dressed women.

Lionello Balestrieri (12 September 1872 – 24 October 1958) was a painter and engraver of various styles mainly in Paris and Naples, he accurately depicted life of early XX century with its special atmosphere.
